WellSpan Health is seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist/Point-of-Care professional to join our Laboratory Services team supporting our integrated healthcare system across South-Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland. In this role, you will serve as a technical resource and subject-matter expert for point-of-care (POC) testing, ensuring that bedside and near-patient testing is accurate, reliable, and aligned with regulatory and institutional standards. As a Medical Technologist specializing in Point-of-Care, you will perform and oversee a wide range of POC assays, such as glucose, coagulation, urinalysis, blood gases, and other rapid tests used throughout our hospitals, outpatient centers, and primary care practices. You will support clinical teams by validating results, monitoring quality control, and investigating testing variances or instrument issues. Working closely with nursing, providers, and laboratory leadership, you will help design and maintain workflows that deliver timely results and support high-quality, patient-centered care. You will play a key role in the implementation and maintenance of POC instruments and related middleware across WellSpan Health. Responsibilities include assisting with method verification, correlation studies, calibration, and periodic performance reviews of equipment. You will collaborate with vendors, biomedical engineering, and information services to ensure proper installation, connectivity to the laboratory and hospital information systems, and minimal downtime of POC analyzers. Training and competency assessment of non-laboratory staff who perform POC testing is an essential part of this position. You will educate nurses, medical assistants, and other authorized users on proper specimen collection, device operation, quality control procedures, and result documentation. You will regularly assess and document their competency, helping to foster a culture of safety, accuracy, and shared accountability in every care setting. Compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements is central to this role. You will develop, review, and update POC procedures and policies; monitor quality indicators; and maintain accurate, survey-ready documentation for all testing locations. You will participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and quality improvement initiatives designed to reduce errors, enhance turnaround times, and support innovation in diagnostic services. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate within a multidisciplinary environment at WellSpan Health, a leading regional healthcare system committed to community wellness and excellence in care. You will interact with laboratory professionals, physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and operational leaders to optimize the use of POC testing across the continuum of care. Depending on organizational needs, work may include occasional travel between WellSpan facilities, limited remote or administrative work, and participation in on-call or off-shift support for urgent POC issues. WellSpan Health promotes a collaborative and inclusive culture that values teamwork, continuous learning, and community involvement. In this Medical Technologist/Point-of-Care role, you will benefit from structured orientation, access to ongoing education and competency development, and opportunities to contribute to system-wide laboratory and clinical projects. You will be supported by leaders who prioritize employee growth, open communication, and innovation in healthcare delivery. WellSpan Health offers a competitive compensation package and a comprehensive benefits program, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, retirement savings options such as a 401(k), and paid time off. Employees have access to wellness programs, professional development resources, and the opportunity to engage in meaningful work that directly impacts patient outcomes and community health. If you are a detail-oriented Medical Technologist with a passion for point-of-care testing, quality, and collaboration, and you are eager to support frontline teams in delivering safe and efficient care, we encourage you to consider this opportunity with WellSpan Health’s Laboratory Services department.
