Johnson Controls is seeking a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) to support our Construction projects within the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) function. In this role, you will be the on-site safety leader, ensuring that all construction activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations as well as Johnson Controls’ internal EHS standards. You will plan, coordinate, and oversee daily safety practices on active job sites, including performing job hazard analyses, conducting toolbox talks, leading site safety orientations, and monitoring compliance with PPE, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout, and other critical programs. The SSHO will perform routine site inspections and audits, identify unsafe conditions or behaviors, recommend corrective actions, and follow through to verify implementation. You will investigate incidents, near-misses, and safety observations, prepare clear documentation and reports, and work with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to implement root-cause corrective and preventive measures. In collaboration with the broader EHS team, the SSHO will help develop and maintain site-specific safety and health plans, emergency response procedures, and environmental controls such as dust, noise, and waste management. You will actively coach and influence craft workers and supervisors to build a strong safety culture that aligns with Johnson Controls’ commitment to innovation, sustainability, and inclusion. This position requires strong communication skills to conduct training, lead safety meetings, and engage a diverse workforce in open dialogue about risk and continuous improvement. The SSHO will track and analyze safety metrics, support client safety requirements, and ensure that documentation, permits, and records are accurate and up to date. Working closely with Systems Engineers and other project stakeholders, you will help integrate safe work practices into the planning and execution of smart building installations and upgrades, ensuring that cutting-edge building technologies are delivered without compromising worker health and safety.
