Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified Farm & Ranch Assistant for a diversified crop and livestock producer in Nebraska. This is an excellent opportunity for a dependable, well-rounded individual who enjoys variety and wants to be involved in both farming and livestock production. The operation includes approximately 4,000 to 5,000 acres of crop production, a large commercial cow-calf operation, hay production, irrigation, harvest, grain handling, and backgrounding calves. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a team environment and willing to assist wherever needed throughout the operation. This is not a position for someone who only wants to sit in a tractor. RESPONSIBILITIES Operate combines during corn and soybean harvest Assist with irrigation throughout the growing season Perform tillage, field preparation, haying, and other seasonal fieldwork Operate tractors, hay equipment, trucks, and other farm machinery Haul grain, hay, cattle, and farm inputs as needed Assist with grain handling and winter grain hauling Perform routine equipment maintenance, including oil changes, inspections, servicing, and seasonal preparation Keep equipment, trucks, shops, and work areas clean and properly maintained Assist with spring and fall calving Tag, feed, doctor, process, sort, and move cattle Assist with weaning and backgrounding calves Build, repair, and maintain fences Help prepare and maintain pastures, corrals, livestock facilities, and water systems Work closely with the farm foreman and other long-term employees Assist with general farm and ranch projects as needed OPERATION Approximately 4,000 to 5,000 acres of crop production Approximately 1,100 to 1,200 commercial cows Both spring- and fall-calving herds Backgrounding calves to approximately 700 to 800 pounds Irrigated row crops Hay production Three combines Newer and well-maintained John Deere equipment Multiple grain trucks and cattle trucks Modern cattle-working facilities Hydraulic chutes and a well-designed corral system On-site mechanical support through an affiliated irrigation and repair business QUALIFICATIONS Previous experience working on a diversified farm and livestock operation preferred Strong combine-operating experience required Experience with cattle handling, calving, feeding, doctoring, and processing Ability to operate tractors, hay equipment, trucks, and farm machinery Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform routine maintenance Irrigation experience preferred Sprayer or planter experience would be a plus CDL or ability to obtain a CDL preferred Must be dependable, honest, safety-minded, and willing to work as part of a team Must take pride in equipment, trucks, facilities, livestock, and overall appearance of the operation Ability to work extended hours during calving, haying, and harvest seasons Must be interested in a stable, long-term position COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS $25+/- per hour, depending on experience and qualifications 401(k) or retirement plan Paid vacation Health insurance available after an introductory employment period Possible work vehicle Housing may be available LONG-TERM OPPORTUNITY The employer has operated a successful and diversified agricultural business for many years and has several employees with 10 to 18 years of tenure.
