Job Duties

We are seeking an experienced Immigration Paralegal in our Minneapolis or Seattle office. In this role, you will assist with all types of employment-based immigration cases, with a strong focus on writing intensive immigration petitions including O-1, EB-1A, EB-1B, and EB-2 NIW. In this role, you will:

Assist attorneys with employment-based immigration cases. Draft, prepare, and file employment-based non-immigrant and immigrant petitions, including H-1B, L, E, TN, O, PERM labor certifications, I-140 petitions (PERM-based and PERM exempt), and I-485 applications.

Ensure all filings are accurate, complete and timely, consistent with the law firm and government procedures.

Maintain an updated case management system (LawLogix) to monitor deadlines and filing dates.

Collect, organize and maintain supporting evidence and corporate documents, ensuring compliance with the agency requirements.

Conduct legal research and gather relevant information from various governmental agencies and AILA sites, and related business and scientific websites.

Start and manage assigned cases with limited supervision. Prepare case reports, metrics and status updates for clients and attorneys upon request. Monitor Visa Bulletin, USCIS and DOL case processing times and case status, visa expiration dates and other timelines for clients.

Communicate with clients, government agencies/officials, consultants and various other parties on a regular basis to collect and assemble information. Communicate findings to attorney; communicate as agent of attorney.

Work effectively as a team with staff and attorneys to collaborate and provide exceptional and efficient client service.

Organize, monitor, and maintain multiple projects, as needed.

May perform other duties not listed above.

What we’re looking for:

Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate.

At least 3-5 years of relevant employment-based immigration law experience.

Extensive experience with writing intensive immigration petitions including O-1, EB-1A, EB-1B, EB-2 NIW, etc.

Thorough understanding of relevant employment-based immigration processes.

Ability to review filing instructions for various application and petition types and obtain necessary forms and documentation.

Ability to draft petition/application cover letter and prepare government agency forms for filings.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Strong analytical skills and ability to prioritize and exercise independent judgment.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with competing demands.

Ability to work with all levels of personnel in a professional manner.

Strong technical skills.

Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines both individually and in a team environment.

Preferred:

Large law firm experience; general Labor and Employment is a bonus.

LawLogix or comparable immigration law software experience; strong research skills.

The pay range for this position in Minnesota only is $29.53 to $61.34 per hour.

The pay range for this position in Seattle only is $34.87 to $75.69 per hour.

This range represents Dorsey’s good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills and location and may fall outside of the range indicated.
