About the Role:
Are you passionate about helping students succeed academically? We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Private Academic Mentor & Tutor to provide academic support for students aged 10-16. While this role requires general subject tutoring, we are specifically looking for someone with a mastery of Language Arts and Biology, as well as experience in History and the Natural Sciences. The ideal candidate is more than a tutor. They are a mentor who can bridge the gap between complex concepts to help foster a deep love for learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver individualized instruction in Language Arts (essay writing, literary analysis, grammar) and History (world history, civics, geography).
Lead sessions in Biology and Natural Sciences, helping students understand the world through observation, logic, and scientific theory.
Help students develop essential study habits, including time management, note-taking, and organizational strategies tailored to their unique learning styles.
Customize lesson plans to meet the students where they are, pivoting between foundational middle-school concepts and rigorous high-school-level coursework.
Maintain a transparent feedback loop with parents regarding academic milestones, areas for improvement, and curriculum goals.
Create a positive, high-energy, and encouraging learning environment that builds student confidence.
Qualifications:
Strong proficiency in Language Arts, History, and the Sciences (Biology/Natural Sciences). A degree in Education or a related field is highly preferred.
Previous experience in tutoring, classroom teaching, or academic mentoring, specifically with the 10–16 age demographic.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain complex historical or scientific concepts in an accessible way.
Must be dependable, patient, highly organized, and able to work independently.
Schedule & Compensation:
Schedule: Approximately 8-10 hours per week (schedule may be flexible).
Location: In-person at the student’s home in Leeds, Utah
Pay: $35 - $50 an hour.
