Data privacy

This system tracks the location of named children, which is the most sensitive data pattern in this entire solution cluster and deserves to be treated that way. Parents see their own child and their own stop — never the manifest, never other families' children, never the full route. School access is scoped by role, and operator staff see the route they are working rather than the student population.

Onboard cameras are a genuine decision point rather than a default: they are useful evidence and they are continuous recording of minors, and a school should make that choice explicitly with its board. Under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 the school is the controller and the transport operator is typically a processor, which means the processing terms belong in the transport contract — a step frequently missed when the operator supplies the tracking system itself. Retention should be short for routine journey data and longer only for incidents.

Student transport is closely regulated here and the expectations are specific: supervisors assigned to buses carrying younger students, a defined window of supervisor duty around the school day, and a requirement that a young child is handed to a guardian at drop-off rather than simply set down — with the student returned to the school if no adult is present. Limitations & prerequisites

  • Card-based attendance depends on students carrying credentials; a proportion will not on any given day, so the supervisor's manual path must stay usable and is not a system failure.
  • The rear sweep device proves someone walked to the back of the bus. It does not prove they looked under every seat — it removes the easy failure, not every failure.
  • Arrival predictions are estimates. UAE traffic incidents can invalidate any forecast, and presenting an estimate as a promise creates a different complaint.
  • Where the operator owns the vehicles and refuses device fitting, the deployment is limited to what their existing telematics exposes — a commercial constraint, not a technical one.
