A real-time location system (RTLS) shows where people, assets and vehicles are right now, indoors where GPS cannot reach and outdoors across yards and routes. Swedish Technology designs RTLS for UAE warehouses, plants, hospitals, construction sites and government facilities: the technology mix, the anchor layout, the software and the integration with the systems you already run.

What RTLS is used for

Use case Typical technology Page
Worker safety: zones, man-down, duress, evacuation headcount UWB + BLE badges Worker safety RTLS
Asset and equipment location BLE or UWB tags; RFID at choke points MOWQIE RTLS
Forklift and vehicle tracking, collision avoidance UWB Forklift collision avoidance
Hospital equipment, staff duress, patient flow BLE, UWB where room accuracy is needed Hospital asset tracking
Warehouse pallets and high-value stock RTLS + RFID RFID warehouse
Yard, trailer and fleet visibility GPS, LoRaWAN MOWQIE RTLS

RTLS or RFID?

RFID tells you an item passed a reader at a point in time. RTLS reports position continuously, so you know where it is now, how long it has been there and how it moved. Many sites use both: RFID at doors and docks, RTLS where live position matters. See RFID solutions.

Choosing the technology

Technology Accuracy (typical) Strength Watch out for
UWB sub-metre precise location; collision avoidance denser anchors, higher cost per area
BLE room / zone low tag and anchor cost; long battery life not for bay-level precision
Passive RFID at the read point cheapest tags; bulk reads no live position between readers
GPS / LoRaWAN metres outdoors yards, routes, remote assets no indoor coverage

Accuracy in a real building depends on anchor density, line of sight, metal racking, liquids and walls. The site survey sets the realistic figure for each zone.

How the system is built

Tags or badges → anchors and gateways → location engine → application (live map, zones, alerts, analytics) → integrations (ERP, maintenance, access control, CCTV, BI). The platform is MOWQIE, Swedish Technology’s RTLS, which combines UWB, BLE, RFID and GPS on one map.

Integration rule: raw coordinates should not be pushed into an ERP. Location is filtered into business events, such as issued, returned, moved or dwelling too long, and those events go to SAP, Oracle, Odoo or a maintenance system through their APIs.

Deployment

On-premises for secure and government sites, hybrid for multi-site control rooms, cloud where policy allows. Location data about people is handled under role-based access and agreed retention periods.

How a project runs

  1. Survey: RF conditions, power and network at anchor positions, use cases.
  2. Proof of concept in one zone with an agreed measure (accuracy, alert time, search time saved).
  3. Expansion zone by zone.
  4. Integration and training.
  5. Local support.

Questions buyers ask

What is an indoor positioning system? A system that locates tags or badges inside buildings, where GPS does not work, using technologies such as UWB, BLE or RFID.

How accurate is RTLS? UWB can reach sub-metre accuracy; BLE gives room or zone level. The survey determines what is realistic in each area.

Do we need to cover the whole site at once? No. Start with one zone and a clear success measure, then expand.

Can RTLS track people and assets on the same system? Yes. People wear badges, and assets and vehicles carry tags, all on one map with separate access rights.

Does RTLS work in hospitals? Yes: equipment location, staff duress alarms, infant protection and patient-flow analytics are common hospital uses.
